At Caversham Preparatory School our pupils’ health and well-being are important to us. Healthy bodies and healthy minds make happy, settled and thoughtful children who in turn become more efficient learners.
We are proud that we have a Healthy Schools Award. This is an external audit of our provision for Sport and Physical Education; Personal, Social. Health, Relationship and Sex Education; the promotion of Healthy Cooking and Eating and Social and Emotional Mental Health provision.
The children learn about how to keep their bodies clean and healthy; how to shop for and prepare healthy meals; grow vegetables in the school garden to make into salads and soups and how both exercise and relaxation time are important for our health.
We aim to promote positive mental health for all pupils. We pursue this aim using both whole school approaches and specialised, targeted help aimed at vulnerable pupils. We have a Teaching Assistant who takes the lead in well-being. The SENCo keeps Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCP) to support any vulnerable pupils. We have a Mental Health and Wellbeing Policy (see the Policies Section) for further details.
Our After School provision offers a time to relax and time to think or (not think) at the end of a long school day. Class ‘Golden Time’ offers a range of crafting and mindfulness activities for the children to enjoy.
