Trained Carers (NVQ Level 3) run the Holiday Care. There is always a Teacher on supervision duty while the Holiday Club is on. There is also always a Paediatric First Aider on Duty and a Senior Member of the Management Team on call to help to deal with any emergency that may arise.
Holiday Care runs for 9 weeks in total. We are open for all of the major school holidays except Christmas. We also close for two weeks at the beginning of the summer when the school is completely closed so that all staff can have a break after a busy summer term and for our Maintenance Week at the end of the summer when we get the school ready to start back at the beginning of the new school year.
A weekly programme is published in advance and the children enjoy a variety of activities, both indoors and out. In the summer, we put up a marquee in the garden for shade and the children are outside for a great deal of the day. Water play with a paddling pool or playing with water pistols cool children down. Wheels week is very popular when the children bring their bicycles, scooters or skateboards from home to play with in the playground.
When the weather is wet and cold, we put together a varied programme of activities such as painting, baking, craft, den building, lego building competitions, film night and iPad time. We go outside when the clouds break – so bring your wellies!
The children have a morning snack in the classroom or garden. Lunch is served at the dining room at Queen Anne’s School. The children (with help) can choose their own servings from the hot and cold buffet and salad bars. Tea is served in the school dining room. The carers make a snack tea of sandwiches and yoghurt or beans and cheese and fruit.
This is a Caversham Prep Holiday Care Provision. No children from outside the school may join. Most children are under 8 years old who attend, but sometimes older children, who may have attended a sports club for part of the summer may wish to attend for the quieter pace of life that we offer. There can be anything from 6 to 18 children in the club at any one time. Sometimes if demand is low, we may cancel one day in the week. This sometimes happens on a Friday, but parents will be notified in advance to allow them to make alternative arrangements. It is no fun with only a couple of children booked in!
Holiday Care is booked in advance, although spaces are sometimes available at short notice. The cost of the care is paid in arrears on your next invoice. Childcare Vouchers are accepted for Holiday Care.
