The children in Years 5 and 6 board a coach for Skern Lodge, an outward bound centre in Appledore in Devon. They spend three nights there in dormitory bedrooms and sleeping very soundly after a long day on the beach; body surfing, scaling climbing walls, hanging from zip wires or canoeing in the river.
The children come home with tales to tell of friendships, facing fears and seemingly impossible tasks accomplished. The children then collaborate to make a presentation of their time at Skern Lodge to share with their parents.
The Junior Camp is a great favourite with the younger members of the Juniors. Years 3 and 4 camp together overnight in the school garden.
The evening starts with a barbeque and games, a campfire with hot chocolate and marshmallows, and singing. Then it’s ready for bedtime, a bedtime story and off to their tents.
If the weather is wet we will sleep indoors (as we have done previously) and we will send out for pizza!
Staff and children do not seem to get much sleep at Junior Camp, but that doesn’t seem to dampen spirits for breakfast! Mr Lawson is on barbeque duty and will come back in the morning to help serve fruit juice, cereal and cook the bacon baps.
